Brownsville Automobile TransportationBrownsville is a city in as well as the county seat of Cameron County, Texas, and according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 139,000, making it the 15th largest city in the state of Texas. It is also the principal city of the Brownsville-Harlingen Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was established in 1848 and named as the county seat of Cameron County in 1849. It was used as a major smuggling point for Confederate goods going into Mexico, primarily cotton which was shipped to Great Britain. During the summer months the average daily highs in the city top out at around 94 degrees or so during the day with typical overnight lows dropping to around 75 degrees. During the winter months, however, the average daily highs in the city top out at around 68 degrees during the day with lows dropping to around 50 degrees.
